The train trip Vienna-Brno was also very comfortable. Culture shock Nr.1: it's not only allowed to drink alcohol in the train - they even sell beer there!
The first volunteering day, 1st September, was free (enjoying the amazing daily view - see the photo) but in the rainy evening our nice coordinator Paja, mentors and "more experienced" volunteers prepared a welcoming outdoor activity for me and two other new volunteers. We went in the forest, then closed eyes up by wooden stairs and ended up in a big cave Pekarna, decorated by candles. Many years ago people lived in that cave and had no clue that once our volunteering journey will start there...
A little note about food:
Culture shock Nr.2: Czech people put cheese everywhere (not bad), even in soup instead of sour cream!!!
Culture shock Nr.3: Pasta is not only a salty dish - it may be eaten also with cottage cheese, cocoa powder or poppy seeds.
However already the second day was full of people at Kapraluv mlyn - an open door event invited everybody big and small to hear a history of this special place and its past owners, observe the ecotechnologies abounding in/around the building (I will explain some of those in the next blog posts), make sausages and bread at the fireplace and experience various "workshops". Mine was a face (or sometimes hand) paining worshop made by very natural colors - different coloring spices, like paprika or coffee, mixed with baby-cream.
Learning moment: ask children what do they want before doing something good for them. The first little girl was superpatient with I was drawing but cryed heavily when dicsovered she became a tiger and not a princess.
Our third day was spent in Brno, the second largest city of the country. I liked the city center, it is actually not so crowdy, inhabitants are somehow equally distributed through all parts of Brno. We walked also in the park of Špilberk castle and I realised that even after a couple of days in Kapraluv mlyn I already felt strange in the city and only trees in parks were comforting my countrysidish soul.
By the way, it is needed around 40 min to get to the city center from our amazing place in the forest, one day I'll make a video about it. ;-)
